The "River of Caves" Cave Tubing was our first pick for an adventure when we were planning the trip. It looked like one of the major attractions at cavesbranch, and around Belize in general (there are many tour companies that do the cave tubing). It was fun, but after we had built it up as the best thing ever, we were a little letdown. The water was very slow, and I think we all wanted a little faster current, a little more fear and adrenaline, and a little less paddling. There were four caves that we got to drift through. They were large enough for it to be pitch black inside when we turned our lights off. It became more crowded downstream, as other tours were casting off. A big tour ended up only going through the last cave, which seemed like one of the smaller ones. Cavesbranch starts much further upstream, and seemed to provide the better tour. After the trip was over, we all sheepishly confirmed our silent thoughts. "You? Yeah. You? Yeah. You?" The tubing is a fairly long trip, and there were no bathroom breaks. Although there was no alternative, I was sure I was the only one! And then we had to sort out who did it where and how close they were to whom when they did it... The Zipline was more exciting. It wasn't quite as fast as I was expecting. Everybody braked too much initially. Instinctual. But, after getting the hang of it, the fun part was to go full speed, and try to brake at just the last minute, to end up stopping just on top of the next platform. As you glide down, you keep one hand (heavily gloved) on the cable, and pull down to brake. Obviously, you want your hand behind where your harness attaches to the cable. They went out of their way to tell everybody this, but that didn't stop one woman from trying anyway. I'm told they had to climb out to recollect her. Good thing for the liability waivers! The final rappel was embarrassing. Dana zipped right down it in front of me. And for some reason, I had to take my time. I'd definitely like to do that part again. From a much higher height.
